Yesterday, the Egyptian African Businessmen Association organized a webinar entitled “The African Economy in the New BRICS Era,” in the context of Egypt’s accession as a member of BRICS for the year 2024. This event comes to play a vital role in exploring and discussing the challenges and opportunities that arise from this important economic alliance.
The webinar aims to bring together experts, thinkers and government representatives from the BRICS countries and the African continent to exchange ideas and experiences, and explore ways to enhance economic cooperation and investment between the two sides. A wide range of topics were discussed in the webinar with the aim of enabling participants to present current research and studies and exchange insights on how to enhance economic cooperation between interested parties.
The talk was opened by Dr. Yousrey El-Sharkawi, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, touched on the impact of Egypt’s accession to the BRICS organization in detail and depth.
During his speech, El-Sharkawi pointed out the importance of this historical event and its expected impact on the African economy. The opportunities and challenges emerging from this accession were highlighted, as it presents significant opportunities to enhance economic cooperation and investment on the African continent.
El-Sharkawi also addressed the expected economic and social impact of Egypt’s accession to BRICS, noting the importance of analyzing and evaluating these economic transformations. He also touched on the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in promoting economic development on the African continent, and urged the exchange of experiences and successful practices in this field with the BRICS countries.
Dr. David King Boison, Senior Lecturer and Head of Department at Ghana University of Communications Technology, gave a distinguished talk on “Port Supply Chain Network Overview and Data Exchange” with the aim of exploring and discussing the concept of the Blue Economy and its importance in the context of the modern global economy.
Dr. Boison’s talk focused on understanding the blue economy and how its benefits extend beyond traditional sectors such as food and human security. The lecture also discussed how the blue economy can contribute to enhancing economic growth and ensuring environmental sustainability.
The speech was an important occasion for those interested in economics and sustainable development, as it provided an in-depth look at the role of ICT in improving the smoothness of the port supply chain and enhancing data exchange in this context.
Dr. Zohair Ammar referred to the future of the sports ecosystem in Africa, as he addressed several important aspects related to the sports movement on the African continent.
During his lecture, Dr. Zohair Ammar spoke about sub-mathematical arithmetic and the Olympic movement on the African continent (SSA). He shed light on the Alternative Olympic Games and the Women’s Olympic Games, and how these games play an important role in promoting sports participation on the continent.
He also referred to the three main components of the Olympic Movement, which are the International Olympic Committee. He stressed how the BRICS countries organize the Olympics in each member state of this economic alliance.
He concluded his speech by recommending expanding the BRICS sports programme. At their first meeting on August 25, 2020, the BRICS Sports Ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on “Cooperation in the Field of Physical Culture and Sports” with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the field of sports within the BRICS countries.
Mr Mtho xulu of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) also emphasized the expected positive impact of the BRICS expansion on the bloc’s positions in the G20.
In his speech, Mr. Mthu xulu stressed the high aspirations of African countries towards economic and trade development in a variety of sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture and other areas. He pointed out the importance of strengthening economic cooperation between the BRICS countries and the countries of the African continent.
He explained that permanent membership in the group of global emerging economies is a historic event and a strategic success in the context of trade policy and international expansion with the bloc countries.
Finally, Mr. Karim EL-Barkouky, head of the Association’s Investment Committee, addressed in his summary the great importance of the role of the Egyptian-African Businessmen Association in enhancing communication between businessmen in Egypt and African countries. He stressed the importance of these international meetings and events to build bridges of cooperation and enhance economic exchange between Egypt and its African partners.
He pointed out that these efforts seek to reach the African street more, and build strong trade and economic relations that enhance sustainable development on the African continent and enhance cooperation between peoples.
