European Commission Survey on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)

In continuation of the ongoing efforts and activities, and the distinguished relations that the Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association (EABA) maintains with its strategic partners, and in light of the keenness of several external entities to cooperate with the Association and its members, we have received the survey from the European Commission regarding the consultation on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which is scheduled to enter into force as of January 2026.

Believing in the importance of unifying the efforts of the private sector and presenting a collective position on the challenges arising from the implementation of this mechanism, we emphasize that the participation of the concerned companies will have a significant impact on shaping the dialogue with the European Union.

Accordingly, we kindly request you to review the attached document and register through the designated link on the European Commission’s website to share your views, noting that the deadline for submission is 25 September 2025.

We particularly draw your attention to the importance of participation from companies operating in the following sectors:

  • Iron and Steel

  • Cement

  • Fertilizers

  • Aluminium

Objectives:
  • Encourage companies, especially those in the most affected sectors (Iron & Steel – Cement – Fertilizers – Aluminium), to participate in the survey and provide feedback.

  • Consolidate the Egyptian position by gathering as many opinions and challenges as possible related to the implementation of the mechanism.

  • Strengthen the voice of the Egyptian private sector to be more impactful and visible before the European Commission.

  • Support national efforts to safeguard the interests of the Egyptian business community from any potential negative repercussions.

  • Affirm the Association’s role as a bridge between the Egyptian business community, international institutions, and policymakers.
