EABA in collaboration with CBC & EU Africa RISE is happy to invite you to the virtual validation workshop to be held on 31st May 2022 from 1430hrs CAT/1530hrs EAT/1630hrs MUT to discuss the report on the development of mutual recognition framework for prepackaged food for COMESA region. The study is being supported by EU Africa RISE.
The requirements for pre-packaged food differ across the COMESA member states. Different countries have different food safety standards and regulations, and their application to trade varies across the COMESA region. They frequently translate into trade barriers that contribute to high trading costs, high transaction costs or high compliance costs. This serves to reduce trade and is forcing companies to scale down their operations and reduce the workforce, hence affecting both investment and employment. The industry believes that there is a strong case for regulators across the region to adopt a common framework for mutual recognition of pre-packaged food standards to ease the movement of pre-packaged food products in the region.
The consultants conducted the study on the issue in COMESA region and they are ready to share the findings with you on the feasibility of developing the framework for pre-packaged food for COMESA region.
