As part of the plan and methodology of the Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association (EABA), which is implemented through well-studied steps, direct coordination, and under the supervision of Egyptian official diplomacy, aiming to achieve effective results on the ground in strengthening joint Egyptian–African cooperation, a delegation from EABA has launched a mission headed by Dr. Yousrey El Sharkawi and joined by Dr. Hossam Abdel-Maqsoud, Board Member of the Association, to the Mozambican capital, Maputo. The mission will run from 20 to 24 August 2025, in full coordination, arrangement, and consultation with H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Farghal, Egypt’s Ambassador to Mozambique. The delegation carries ambitious portfolios and opens the door for a large number of member companies to achieve objectives primarily in the pharmaceutical sector, followed by other sectors such as construction, tourism, higher education, information technology, and sports investment projects. The mission is scheduled to hold intensive meetings with top local traders, investors, senior officials, and decision-makers.

The activities commenced with the strong participation of the Egyptian delegation in the opening of the African Diplomatic Forum for Investment and Tourism 2025, organized by the African Tourism Council under the auspices of the African Union. The event was held under the patronage and in the presence of H.E. Maria Nhivida Levy, Prime Minister of Mozambique, H.E. Basilio Mahiti, Minister of Economy, H.E. Rassak Manhiqu, Mayor of Maputo, and H.E. Cuthbert Ncube, President of the African Tourism Council. The forum witnessed broad African diplomatic participation along with a large number of business leaders and decision-makers from SADC member states. This edition is considered one of the most significant events in this vital economic sector, representing tourism in West and Southern Africa, held under the theme: “Unlocking Africa’s Tourism Potential through Diplomacy and Investment.”

During the opening session, the Egyptian delegation held several meetings with company executives and business groups from Mozambique, as well as with Prof. Doutor Manuel Guilherme, President of Eduardo Mondlane University, one of the most prominent and historic universities in Mozambique. Discussions were held on cooperation across four key areas that will be jointly developed between the Association and the university.
H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Farghal, Egypt’s Ambassador to Mozambique, stated that the embassy is in continuous contact with all relevant stakeholders across the economic sectors in Mozambique, aiming to create greater opportunities for Egyptian companies—whether through exporting to the Mozambican market to support increased trade exchange between the two countries, or through joint investments that achieve the goals of shared economic cooperation between Egypt and the Southern African states. He expressed his full satisfaction with the presence of the EABA delegation, affirming that the embassy is fully committed to supporting all active Egyptian economic entities eager to build effective cooperation.
For his part, Dr. Yousrey El Sharkawi, Chairman of EABA, stressed: “We are working diligently through well-structured planning in both Zambia and Mozambique, in coordination with the ambassadors and our extended networks in these countries, as we fully recognize the importance of these markets. We have arrived with precise and tangible project portfolios that we are ready to implement immediately, which will pave the way for consistent Egyptian business presence within this vital and strategic region.”
Dr. Hossam Abdel-Maqsoud, Chairman of Dawaa Pharma and Board Member of EABA, expressed his great interest in this visit, stating that he came to Mozambique with clear objectives for his companies in the pharmaceutical sector and in marketing Egyptian medicine across Africa. He explained that his company aims to establish five major regional pharmaceutical warehouses across five African regions, based on thorough studies, well-planned operations, and serious investments in partnership with African counterparts and under the support of several governments. This would represent a strong first phase of a genuine Egyptian pharmaceutical presence on the continent. The first launch within the SADC bloc will begin from Mozambique. In a more advanced second phase, these large warehouses will be transformed into full-fledged pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging plants within Africa—an effective and optimal application to accelerate cooperation in this sector. Following their arrival, the delegation also held an intensive meeting with one of Mozambique’s major investment firms, which showed strong interest in immediate partnership to achieve tangible results.
