In continuation of the efforts, activities, and outstanding relationships that the Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association (EABA) maintains with its strategic partners, and in light of the desire of certain external entities to collaborate with the association and its members, the EABA, in cooperation with the Embassy of Burundi in Cairo, organized a virtual conference titled “Egypt-Burundi Business Day 2024.” This event aimed to enhance investment and cultural exchange between Egypt and Burundi and provide significant updates on this matter.
The conference was attended by several notable figures, including Dr. Yousrey El-Sharkawi, EABA Chairman, and H.E.Omar Ntezimbere, Ambassador of Burundi to Egypt. Also present were Dr. Jeanine Niyonkomezi, Director General of the Ministry of Trade, Transport, Industry, and Tourism in Burundi; Ms. Niyo Nkuru Hyancinte, Head of the Investment and Export Promotion Division at the Burundi Development Agency “ADB”; and Mr. Roger Ngabirano, Director of Investment and Export Promotion at the Burundi Development Agency (ADB).
The discussion sessions focused on ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the Egyptian and Burundian private sectors, highlighting opportunities in trade, transport, tourism, and industry. Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and utilizing available opportunities for joint cooperation, which contributes to the economic development of both countries.
Dr. Yousrey El-Sharkawi stated, “This event reflects our commitment to strengthening economic relations with Burundi and contributes to opening new horizons for investment and trade between the two countries. We believe in the importance of regional cooperation that brings mutual benefits to both parties.”
El-Sharkawi highlighted the significance of such events in driving economic growth, saying, “The cooperation between the Egyptian and Burundian private sectors at this time will enhance investment opportunities and contribute to improving trade exchange, especially in strategic sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation.”
He also mentioned that the Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association will continue to organize such events to deepen cooperation with African countries, adding, “We are committed to supporting all efforts aimed at enhancing economic relations with African countries and providing a favorable investment environment to attract investments and stimulate joint cooperation.”
In his remarks, H.E Omar Ntezimbere, Ambassador of Burundi to Egypt, said, “The organization of this event represents an important step toward enhancing economic cooperation between Egypt and Burundi and opens new doors for the exchange of knowledge and expertise between businessmen in both countries. We see that this cooperation will create real economic opportunities that benefit the peoples of both countries.”
Ntwembere affirmed that Burundi looks forward to deepening economic relations with Egypt, stating, “We in Burundi recognize the importance of partnering with Egypt in various fields and seek to encourage mutual investments that support development in both countries. This event is an ideal opportunity to propose ideas and initiatives that will further strengthen this cooperation.”
The virtual conference also highlighted available investment opportunities across different sectors. It addressed ways to improve the business environment by streamlining procedures and providing technical support to new investors, facilitating the launch of investment projects and boosting trade exchange between the two countries.
Participants further emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise and knowledge among businesspeople in both countries, presenting several successful cooperation models between Egyptian and Burundian companies. They stressed the need for continued organization of such events to enhance bilateral relations and build strategic partnerships that support sustainable economic growth.
“Egypt-Burundi Business Day 2024” marks a positive step toward strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Burundi, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation between the business communities of both countries. This event represents the beginning of more economic activities that will contribute to enhancing investment and trade between Egypt and Burundi, serving the shared interests of sustainable development in Africa.
