EABA participate in the Conference of the African Potato Association in the Republic of Malawi

The African Potato Association (APA) is holding its twelfth conference in the Republic of Malawi, in which Dr. Mohamed Adel Al-Ghandour, Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Security Committee of the Egyptian-African Businessmen Association, as a keynote speaker.

This comes in fulfillment of the orientations of the Egyptian political leadership and President Sisi’s support to enhance the participatory capabilities of the continent, and this principle from which the Egyptian-African Businessmen Association, headed by Dr. Yousrey ElSharkawi, derives its vision and many events in Egypt and the African continent.

The conference, held in the capital, Bengo, Republic of Malawi, brings together scholars, professors and decision makers; To help develop plans to develop potato production in Africa, from June 26 to July 1, 2022.

Dr. Mohamed El-Ghandour, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Food Security in the association, thanks the African Potato Association (APA) for its interest in gathering this number of experts in one place; To discuss the most prominent problems facing the brown continent in potato cultivation, discuss opportunities and challenges, and provide realistic and sustainable solutions from the perspective of the private sector in most areas, especially in issues that constitute a priority for African countries.

Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghandour is scheduled to talk about irrigation systems for potato production, in a lecture entitled “Using drip irrigation systems and improving irrigation management in potato production.” Al-Ghandour stressed that Egypt has a vision to develop the irrigation system and modernize irrigation methods, pointing to the need to transfer Egyptian expertise in agriculture. To the rest of the continent, and stress the importance of switching to modern irrigation systems.

Al-Ghandour stressed the enormous benefits that would accrue to the continent in increasing productivity through the transition to modern irrigation systems. He referred to the successful experiences of irrigation in the ancient Egyptian lands and the shift from flood irrigation systems to drip, pointing to the importance of such conferences to benefit from the experiences of countries; To increase the area of agriculture and reclaim new lands, stressing that the African continent has 930 million hectares of arable land, more than half of which cannot be exploited.

Dr. Yousrey ElSharkawi, chairman of the Egyptian-African Businessmen Association, stressed that the association is interested in finding realistic and sustainable solutions, especially in issues that constitute the priority of African countries, which calls for strengthening African cooperation in the field of agriculture and food security.

Elsharkawi pointed out that Africa has a huge wealth of untapped land, stressing that Africa is rich in huge arable land, which is sufficient to eliminate the problem of food security on the continent, stressing that all we need is to apply the latest methods in this field, and added that the continent Africa is in urgent need of improved agricultural technologies; to ensure food security.

It is worth mentioning that the African Potato Association is a non-profit organization established in 1983 with the aim of promoting potato production in Africa. To serve farmers all over Africa.
