The Tanzanian Embassy, in collaboration with the EABA, is organizing the largest Tanzanian economic mission to Egypt

As part of the ongoing efforts by the Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association (EABA) to strengthen economic and trade relations between Egypt and African countries, EABA, in collaboration with the Tanzanian Embassy in Egypt and the Tanzanian Investment Centre, is organizing the largest Tanzanian economic mission to Egypt. The mission will include more than 50 Tanzanian businessmen, aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries across various economic sectors and expanding economic partnerships.

Over the past five years, trade and investment relations between Egypt and Tanzania have seen notable growth. In 2023, Tanzanian exports to Egypt reached approximately $4.78 million, while imports from Egypt exceeded $54.42 million. Tanzanian exports included coffee, tobacco, coconuts, and gold, while Egyptian imports consisted of iron, steel, sugar, machinery, and pharmaceutical products. Egypt is one of the top ten investors in Tanzania, having implemented 36 projects worth over $1.36 billion from 1997 to November 2025. One of the key joint projects between the two countries is the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Dam and Station, which reflects substantial cooperation in the energy sector and contributes to enhancing energy security and sustainable development in Tanzania. This underlines the need for further economic cooperation and support for partnerships between the two nations.

The mission will run from January 21 to February 2, 2025, and will include visits to three major cities: Cairo, Alexandria, and Aswan. The events are part of a series of economic activities under the theme “Accelerating Trade Exchange Between Tanzania and Egypt for Economic Development.” Activities will begin in Cairo on Thursday, January 23, followed by Alexandria on Monday, January 27, and Aswan on Thursday, January 30, with around 200 representatives from both public and private sectors expected to attend.

Dr. Yousrey El-Sharkawi, Chairman of the Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association, stated that this Tanzanian economic mission to Egypt is a unique event that reflects the depth of the economic relations between the two countries. It represents an important step toward achieving commercial integration between the private sectors of Egypt and Tanzania. He added that the association is keen to organize this mission in collaboration with the Tanzanian Embassy and the Tanzanian Investment Centre, to create a comprehensive platform that brings together both public and private sectors, with the goal of showcasing economic opportunities in promising sectors such as tourism, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

El-Sharkawi also emphasized that the visit would include field trips to farms, sites, and real estate development projects, as well as meetings with Egyptian government officials, including those from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Communities, who will present detailed offers on key opportunities in the real estate sector. The mission will also include meetings with the Egyptian Tourism Authority and visits to sites such as greenhouses and pharmaceutical factories, providing participants with direct insight into business opportunities in Egypt.

The forum will be held under the patronage of General Ismail Kamal, Governor of Aswan, with the theme “Aswan, Gateway to Africa.” He noted that all events will provide an ideal platform for exchanging ideas and experiences between business leaders and government officials, which will serve as a catalyst for building strong communication bridges and opening new avenues for cooperation, contributing to achieving the shared economic development goals between Egypt and African countries.

The mission aims to discuss partnership opportunities in key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, financial services, technology, energy, infrastructure, and real estate. It will also include meetings between governments and businesses (G2B), as well as B2B meetings, along with field visits to major projects and companies in Egypt.

This mission reflects the EABA’s vision to enhance Egypt’s economic role in Africa by opening new channels of economic cooperation with Tanzania, one of the most promising economic destinations in East Africa. This step reaffirms the importance of cooperation between governments and the private sector to maximize shared economic benefits.

It is expected that the mission will result in the signing of several agreements, in addition to creating a new business environment that supports the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area. The mission marks the beginning of a new phase of Egyptian-Tanzanian cooperation, contributing to economic integration and sustainable development, and solidifying Egypt’s position as a strategic economic partner for African nations.

This landmark event lays the foundation for further collaborative efforts between the two sides, highlighting the importance of strengthening economic ties among African countries to achieve sustainable economic revival that positively impacts the continent’s people.
